Vyāli

The Vyāli is a mythical creature usually depicted on pillars, doorways, and gopurams in Dravidian temple sculptures of South India. It is considered a guardian creature, blending features of lion, elephant, horse, and sometimes bird/serpent. Its fierce, hybrid form symbolizes power, courage, and protection and is meant to ward off evil spirits, negative forces, and enemies.
